The Lorange Board Initiative
In all corporations worldwide the Board of Directors is a key resource. So is the Chairman of the Board. But the Board is not used to its full potential; much experience and competence is available, but not always used. There is a "gap" between the full potential of many Boards and what they are actually used for. The Lorange Institute of Business Zurich has embarked on an initiative to understand the reasons why such a "gap" exists, and how to bridge it. We call it the Lorange Board Initiative.
Recently, a lot is being said and written about Board governance and regulatory issues. But little is being said and done about Board strategy and leadership topics-how the Board is actually being utilized as a strategic resource for the corporation. The Lorange Institute argues that the Board is an overlooked resource: not only could it avoid some common mistakes, it could create more value for the business it is serving by improving its strategic decision-making process, supporting the management team in implementing key strategic initiatives, and interacting with top management more effectively.
The Lorange Institute has launched an effort to advise chairmen and board members on how to design key strategic tasks and improve Board performance. The purpose is to further define the full potential of Board performance, to highlight the "gap" and help chairmen bridge it.
